In connection with the organizational changes in the Russian division of Onninen, the question arose of restructuring IT systems, while it was important to take care of the smooth functioning of services and the continuity of business processes. The management decided to move some of the IT resources to the cloud. The Noventiq public cloud service was chosen as the platform, since the company's specialists offered a solution meeting the basic requirements of the customer with a flexible licensing program, high availability of services in the cloud and technical support.

Situation

Onninen is a supplier of technical equipment for industrial and construction enterprises; it has more than 3 thousand employees in 8 countries of the world.

Solution

At the initial stage of the project, information was collected to assess the specifics of migration. Then the infrastructure was transferred directly and the services were provided in the Noventiq public cloud. For Onninen's employees, the migration went smoothly, despite the fact that user accounts were not moved to the cloud, but re-created there.

Noventiq specialists migrated the entire server infrastructure: Active Directory, domain name service, file service and SQL Server DBMS. Only objects that cannot be transferred to the cloud remain in the customer's on-premises infrastructure, for example, workstations and scanners. One of the servers, created in the cloud, operates as a terminal server and ensures the functioning of the customer's business applications.

Results

“As a result of migration to the cloud, the resources of the offices of St. Petersburg and Krasnodar were combined. As a result, it was possible to reduce maintenance and upgrades, software support, personnel costs,” commented Ivan Lukovnikov, Manager of the Regional Sales Department of the Noventiq Solutions Department.

“The transfer of the main part of IT services to the cloud made it possible to maintain the operability of the infrastructure during the period of reorganization, to ensure interaction between the company's divisions, the functioning of the ERP system, and also to reduce the cost of its maintenance,” said Denis Grekov, Leading Technical Support Specialist, Onninen.
