The Customer is a leading private bank, which is amongst one the largest financial institutions in Cambodia and a top player in the industry.
A prominent Cambodian bank, a client of Noventiq, embarked on a strategic move to transition its Power BI service—a cloud-based SaaS hosted on Microsoft’s cloud platform— to an on-premises Power BI Report Server—a Microsoft solution that allows organizations to manage it within their own data centers, offering increased control and compliance with local regulations—. To facilitate this migration and leverage specialized technology expertise, the bank engaged Noventiq along with its acquired subsidiary, Belitsoft.
The challenge
The Customer had been using Power BI service until last year when they decided to migrate their reports to on-premises Power BI Report Server following the change in the local legislation. The bank asked Noventiq for migration assistance. To amplify the team, we engaged Belitsoft, our recent acquisition specializing in analytical solutions, to provide consultancy through the migration.
After migration, the bank decided to check the possibilities to remediate the limitations of the Power BI Report Server and the lack of back compatibility between cloud and on-premise products. Noventiq and Belitsoft were enquired about proposing a solution to improve the situation.
The solution
After analyzing all possible options, we recommended creating an Analytical system based on separate products to ensure the best performance on each step of data processing, from data ingestion and transformation to data visualization. The solution included developing an ETL agent, creating a data warehouse and an analytical layer based on SQL Server Analysis Services, and finally, Power BI Report Server utilization just for reports distribution. The Customer requested Proof of concept to check the proposed approach.
The results
The united team of Noventiq and Belitsoft conducted the pilot deployment, which involved assessing the current model structure for one business domain, building the proper architecture stack, and transferring knowledge to the Customer.
The team proved themselves as a competent player focused on delivering the desired result to the client. All involved specialists had more than enough technical experience in data engineering to resolve all the requests from the Customer and built the foundation for the next steps.
