After assessing the current state of IT in the organisation, Noventiq developed an economic model that allowed E.ON to evaluate the cost of ownership and their return on investment when introducing new technologies. As a result, a whole new concept for using cloud services, virtualization and thin clients in the organisation was developed and a portfolio of projects was formed.
The background
E.ON is the most efficient company in the thermal power generation sector in the Russian Federation. Their main activity is producing and selling electric and heat energy and power.
The customer set the following goals:
- Develop possible options for using virtualisation technologies, cloud services and thin clients;
- Assess the potential benefits and economic effect of options for their use;
- Create a concept for using cloud services, virtualisation and thin clients.
The solution
After assessing the current state of IT in the organisation, Noventiq developed an economic model that allowed them to evaluate the cost of ownership and their return on investment when introducing new technologies. As a result, a new way of using cloud services, virtualization and thin clients in the organisation was developed and a portfolio of projects was formed.
The results
The implementation of the project will allow E.ON to achieve the following results:
- Increase the efficiency of management and the speed of decision-making online;
- Increase the economic efficiency of the IT infrastructure operation (taking into account its scaling) by 30%;
- Increase the efficiency of resource use (energy, human, etc.) by 40%.
“While developing the concept of using cloud services for E.ON, we faced an interesting challenge: we needed not only to compare different architectures, but also to substantiate the economic efficiency of the transition to new technologies. As part of the project, we developed an economic model that allowed us to estimate the cost of ownership and the return on investment when introducing new technologies. This approach allowed us to offer the customer not only a solution that was technologically innovative, but also economically optimal.”
Nikolay Agrinsky, head of IT Strategies Department at Noventiq.
